Louisville Oral Surgery and Dental Implants – What You Need to Know
Posted By: admin
Are you considering oral surgery and dental implants? You might be surprised to learn that implant therapy has come a long way over the past two decades. Today, modern dental implants are considered the best solution for missing tooth replacement.
Does A Dental Implant Procedure Hurt?
One of the biggest concerns our Louisville oral surgery and dental implant team hears is in regard to pain. Surprisingly, a dental implant procedure is usually straightforward and more comfortable than a dental extraction.
If you need added oral surgeries to support your implants (such as sinus lifts or bone grafts,) those will require a bit more healing time and potential discomfort. But is getting dental implants painful? No. In fact, most people experience little to no discomfort after a traditional implant surgery. We use narcotic-free main management techniques that keep you comfortable long after the actual procedure.
You can use dental implants to replace as many or few teeth as necessary. Choose between individual implants with a supported porcelain crown, pairs of implants for a multi-tooth dental bridge, or full mouth reconstruction with a complete implant-supported denture.
There’s something for everyone!
Advantages of Dental Implants
Our Louisville oral surgery and dental implant patients will be able to enjoy added oral health benefits from their investment. Compared to other types of tooth replacement options, dental implants are:
- Healthier for your bone
- Non-invasive to adjacent teeth
- Longer lasting
- Able to replace any number of teeth
- Supportive of your facial tissues (lips, cheeks) to prevent an aged appearance
- Stronger than your natural teeth
- Easy to care for
What to Expect During Your Implant Surgery
Every Louisville oral surgery and dental implant treatment starts with an exam and consultation. During these planning appointments, we’ll talk you through your expected procedure and what’s involved.
In a traditional case, we’ll use a small amount of local anesthetic to numb your implant site, set the implant into the bone, and then allow the area to heal. When the implant has integrated permanently into your jaw, you’ll be ready to have the fixed restoration anchored on top.
In most cases, you are fit with a temporary appliance to wear during the healing process. A few months later, the top of your implant is uncovered for an abutment to snap into an opening at the top of your artificial root. This abutment is what your permanent restoration (crown, bridge, or denture) is affixed to.
Implants have the highest success rate of any modern dental procedure. With good home care and ongoing maintenance, most people enjoy their new implants for the rest of their life.
