What is Oral Surgery?
Posted By: admin
Did your dentist refer you to our Lafayette oral surgery practice? If you’ve never seen an oral surgeon or required specialized care, you may be asking yourself “what is oral surgery?”
Oral surgery is a complex procedure that can’t be completed in a regular dentist’s office. It can also involve procedures that require specialized care with or without dental sedation.
Common Types of Oral Surgery
Some of the most common oral surgery procedures we offer in our Lafayette office include:
- Wisdom tooth extractions
- Managing dental emergencies (such as broken jaws)
- Orofacial reconstruction
- Dental implant placement
- Cleft lip and palate repair
- Sinus lifts and bone grafting
Although this isn’t a comprehensive list, it’s an example of some of the procedures that are familiar to most people.
As your oral surgeon, Dr. Curt Hayes works closely with your existing dentist (if applicable) to provide comfortable and efficient care related to your unique situation. More often than not, this involves some type of sedative to ensure you feel as relaxed as possible.
Oral surgeons are licensed to provide this added service in a safe outpatient procedure.
Do I Need Oral Surgery?
Some of our patients call our Lafayette, CO practice directly, without a referral. Others come via a referral by their dentist.
If you need oral surgery, we’ll see you for a consultation to discuss your concerns and our findings. From there, we’ll determine the best method of care and answer any questions that you have.
Oral surgery is usually covered under medical and/or dental insurance, depending on the type of procedure you need. When you bring your card with you to your exam, we’ll verify your benefits as they relate to the type of treatment required.
